The industry is in continuous need of security professionals to combat threats to information assets. Unfortunately, the advances in technology have also created a gap between academia and industry. The gap in recognizing and understanding, current information security infrastructure, is the basis of difficulties faced by organizations.

PAKCON is an exclusive cyber security convention, the first initiative of its kind in the history of Pakistan IT since 2004. PAKCON is the brainchild of a group of capable security professionals who have employed their genius and aptitude to provide an overall extensive and comprehensive experience of information security in the form of a wide-ranging convention on information security. People at PAKCON aim to highlight the issues related with information security and the problems faced by IT professionals. PAKCON's undeterrent objective is to examine flaws with new and current technologies, finding their solutions, covering unique and interesting developments in all areas pertaining to information security.

Industry requires continuous influx of competent graduates to help it face the current era's information security challenge. PAKCON attempts to address this problem by bridging the gap between academia and industry.

This year, PAKCON reaches out to Academia and is appropriately named PAKCON Academia for the first time. It provides an umbrella for both the industry professionals and personnel involved in academics (that includes students, teacher, researches and other fellows). PAKCON Academia is being organized at Jinnah University for Women, Karachi; specifically focusing the students and researchers. Jinnah University for Women is the first Women University of Pakistan. Since 1987, it has been serving as an institution which fulfills requisites of modern information industry.

The convention this year, will feature professionals from the market; presenting security awareness, information security challenges and cutting-edge preventive measures. The professionals aim to give latest insight of information security trends and technologies, followed by practical workshops on hacking techniques and secure application development.
