About this course

 

An Introduction To Visual Studies

In our image saturated world, visual literacy is not an extravagance, it is a necessity. Visual imagery entertains us and sells products. It also shapes the way we remember the past and envision gender, race, and social class. Visual Studies teaches you how to analyze and decode images, to interpret visual texts, and to use photography and film as investigative tools.

 

Visual Studies at JUW

The undergraduate Visual Art Studies program is designed with the philosophy of giving the student a wide range of experiences in general art, including concept development, experimental approaches, technique and formal compositional concerns. The program has built-in flexibility to deal with ongoing issues and new approaches to art making. Students are guided and encouraged to explore and to take advantage of opportunities to exhibit, to write, and to discuss their ideas and to begin to develop a portfolio and resume.

The Department of Visual Studies offers Three types of bachelor’s degree programs in art:

  • Fine Arts
  • Textile Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Fashion Design

 

Fine Arts

The Bachelor of Fine Arts offers an immersive, studio-based environment that fosters and promotes self-directed, studio practice in Drawing, painting, Photography, ceramic and Sculpture .

Students are expected to develop studio projects that require investigation and experimentation with a range of concepts, materials, techniques and processes. In second and third year, students are involved in sustained exploration and experimentation with ideas, procedures and methodologies of practice, culminating in a resolved body of artwork for the Graduate Exhibition.

 

Career In Fine Arts

Professionals in fine arts have many avenues open to them depending on their talent, personality and perseverance. They can seek employment in advertising agencies, Art Galleries, Museum and media houses. Besides fine arts professionals can also work in production houses, theatre and drama houses. Gallery Painter, Printmaker, Painters can also work independently or on contractual basis. Many of the fine artists can adopt teaching as their career option. They also can work as art critics and writers on art.

 

Textile Design

Textile design associates itself in making creative, stylish and contemporary designs. Textile design requires special skills to create innovative designs.

 

Career In Textile Designing

With growing market potential for textile products there is a wide range of career options in this field. Textile design comprises both surface design and structural design. Textile designers usually handle embroidery designs, print, weave and texture. Textile designers need to have detail information about textile fibers and different methods of textile design.

 

Graphic Design

Graphic design combines the creativity and formal characteristics of fine art with the audience-centered approach of marketing to create effective visual communication.

 

Career In Graphic Designing

Graphic design career options are numerous. You could go into advertising and create various ads and promotional pieces for large companies. You can work as a photographer, utilizing your skills in digital photography and image manipulation. You can also choose to build their graphic designer careers in TV and cartoon animation or working in the film industry. You can also go into the more traditional graphic design work and create business cards, brochures, packaging, and other visual pieces for businesses. As you can see, careers with graphic design offer limitless potential. With the creative needs in publishing, journalism, film, business, government and more, graphic designers are in high demand.

 

Fashion Design

Fashion design is the applied art devoted to the designing of clothing and lifestyle accessories. Fashion design Program teach student to envision, design, Produce and market clothing. For instance, focuses on construction skills, pattern-making, Draping, Industrial sewing skills, in particular garment design, pattern-making and textile selection.

 

Career In Fashion Designing

Fashion designers can find a plethora of jobs in the fashion world. The most popular among them being costume designer, fashion consultant, personal stylist, technical, designer, pattern designer, production pattern maker, fashion coordinator, fashion photography coordinator, apparel production manager, fabric buyer, fabric quality control manager, show room sales representative, illustrator, cutting assistant, product supervisor and outside sales representative. Besides, they can turn entrepreneurs and create their own fashion lines of garments and accessories.
