“Three-Day 6th International Conference on Biological Research and Applied Sciences held at Jinnah University for Women”
The 6th International Conference on Biological Research and Applied Sciences (IBRAS-2026) was successfully held at Jinnah University for Women (JUW) from January 20 to 22, 2026, marking a three-day international scientific gathering that brought together researchers, academicians, and industry professionals from across the globe. The conference provided a vibrant platform for deliberation on emerging trends and innovations in biological and applied sciences.
IBRAS-2026 was organized under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Narmeen Zakaria Bawany, Dean, Faculty of Science, Jinnah University for Women, who served as the Conference Chair.
The conference featured nine technical thematic sessions, including Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence in Biological and Chemical Sciences, Food Science, Microbiology, Mathematics, and Zoology, with a strong focus on advancing solutions to global health, environmental challenges, and industrial needs. The scientific program comprised over 90 national and international oral presentations and more than 100 poster presentations. Scholars and researchers from Sweden, Turkey, the United States, Azerbaijan, China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Pakistan actively participated in the conference.
Prior to the main conference, a series of pre-conference tutorials and hands-on workshops were successfully conducted, emphasizing capacity building, practical skill enhancement, and professional development in emerging and applied areas of the life sciences.
The inaugural session was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. Tariq Rafi, Chairman, Sindh Higher Education Commission, who, in his address, emphasized that women’s education is essential for national progress and socio-economic development, highlighting its pivotal role in strengthening the future of the nation. A key highlight of the inaugural program was the plenary lecture by the keynote speaker, Dr. Haider A. Khwaja, Senior Research Scientist at the Wadsworth Center, New York, and Associate Professor at the University at Albany, New York. Dr. Khwaja delivered a plenary lecture titled “Smog Pollution: Causes, Consequences, and Control,” addressing critical environmental and public health concerns.
During the conference deliberations, strong emphasis was placed on the responsible and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence, underscoring that responsible AI adoption has become an indispensable requirement of the present era. Participants stressed that AI should be utilized as a supportive and transparent tool to enhance scientific research while maintaining academic integrity and societal responsibility.
The conference concluded with a Closing Ceremony, graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Abdul Basit, Director, Indus Diabetes and Endocrinology Center. In his address, he highlighted the need to move beyond research publications and focus on the patenting and commercialization of research outputs. He emphasized that protecting intellectual property and translating clinical research into practical applications are crucial for national development, industrial growth, and socio-economic progress in Pakistan. He also appreciated the visionary leadership of the University Chancellor, Mr. Wajeehuddin Ahmed, and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Naeem Farooqui, for their efforts toward women’s education and empowerment. Prof. Dr. Abdul Basit welcomed future research collaboration between the Indus Organization and Jinnah University for Women, expressing optimism for meaningful joint initiatives.
