I welcome you all in Faculty of Pharmacy, Jinnah University for Women. Department of Pharmacognosy comprise of highly qualified and internationally experienced faculty members which will help you to build your knowledge about Natural Products, Alternative Medicine, Indigenous and International Flora and Fauna at both basic and advanced levels. As the green wave is travelling globally attracting people towards organic Pharmaceuticals and Cosmeceuticals, this department will be a good choice for research at master’s and doctorate levels to explore the hidden therapy in Medicinal Plants and develop Natural Medicine and Organic Cosmetics. Our faculty is providing a solid foundation to students by exposing them in seminars, workshops and conferences, so that they can compete with others in market. We nurture the talent of our students and offer them valuable opportunities for professional development and career growth.

Department is committed to provide competent environment for both faculty and students to excel learning. Research in Pharmacognosy offers diverse opportunities for study and research at the interface between natural and derivatives of natural compounds with emphasis on raising the standards of training of scholars in economically relevant fields of natural product sciences, and resources mobilization for the future growth in new disciplines of biotechnological sciences. Department is well aware about the needs and expectations of herbal industry, for that purpose department is focused in collaboration with industry and other center of excellence.

The Department of Pharmacognosy is part of the highly collaborative and interdisciplinary Faculty of pharmacy. Pharmacognosy is a discipline with a traditional focus on phytochemistry with the broad goals of drug discovery and optimization. The transformational and innovative revolutionizations are perceptible and practiced all over the world in the field of pharmaceutical education and research. The need, demand and implication of knowledge, expertise and new modus operandi spruce up educations in pharmacy. In this era of globalization, there is portentous requirement to take full reimbursement from the recent advances and developments taking place in other developed countries offering high quality education in pharmacy. The program will also strive to develop a capacity for innovation and a passion for lifelong learning. Research in Natural Product offers diverse study opportunities and research at the interface between chemistry, botany, zoology and biotechnology with emphasis on raising the standards of training of scholars in economically relevant fields of Natural sciences, and resources mobilization for the future growth in new disciplines. The program will inculcate among students a strong sense of civic, professional and ethical responsibility. It will help students to enhance their ability in oral and written communication, and their adaptability to team environments.

Mission

The mission of this department is to train students according to the high quality education and latest scientific information. Our operation includes:

  • To explore the indigenous flora and fauna for the treatment of prevalent diseases
  • Integrate the discipline of natural medicine in Research & Development departments of different pharmaceutical and herbal industries.
  • Design newer techniques for extraction and isolation for natural products used as pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals.
  • To serve as a consultation hub for the pharmaceutical industry and community.
