Introduction

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is an integral part of the highly collaborative and interdisciplinary Faculty of Pharmacy. The department offers Pharm.D., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs encompassing key areas of organic, analytical, and medicinal chemistry.

Our courses are designed to instill strong foundational concepts across multiple disciplines, including Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Chemo-informatics, Pharmacology, and Physiology, all of which are essential to modern drug discovery and drug design.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry traditionally emphasizes a firm grounding in drug design, stability studies, analytical method development, validation, and quality control. The curriculum combines conceptual knowledge with intensive laboratory experience, supported by excellent teaching resources and state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Our educational philosophy focuses on enabling students to harmonize theory with practice, concepts with applications, and problems with solutions. Graduates are trained to apply scientific principles and practical skills in the design, development, evaluation, and maintenance of drugs, analytical methods, and instrumentation. The programs also foster innovation, critical thinking, and a passion for lifelong learning.

Research in Pharmaceutical Chemistry offers diverse opportunities at the interface of chemistry and biology. Faculty members are engaged in cutting-edge research including:

  • Synthesis of biologically active compounds

  • Bioassay-guided isolation and purification of natural products

  • Computer-aided drug design and targeted synthesis

  • Pharmaceutical drug interaction studies

  • Analytical method development, stability testing, and validation
