Introduction

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is part of the highly collaborative and interdisciplinary Faculty of Pharmacy. Department offers Pharm. D., M.Phil and Ph.D. courses encompassing organic, analytical and medicinal chemistry. All the courses have been planned in such a way that they instill the concept of variety of disciplines including Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Chemo-informatics, Pharmacology and Physiology related to drug discovery and drug designing. Pharmaceutical chemistry is a discipline with a traditional focus in providing firm groundings in the field of drug designing, stability, method development, validation and quality control. Curriculum also focuses on laboratory experience supported by an excellent teaching and infrastructure. Pharmaceutical chemistry education will focus on imparting the knowledge and training which should enable students to harmonize theory with practice, concept with application, and problem with solution.  It will prepare them to apply principles, practices, and processes to design, develop, deploy, and maintain drugs and instruments.  The programme will also strive to develop a capacity for innovation and a passion for lifelong learning. Research in Pharmaceutical chemistry offers diverse study opportunities and research at the interface between chemistry and biology. Faculty members are actively engaged in research studies related to different fields of drug designing like synthesis of biologically active compounds, Bioassay guided Isolation and purification of natural products, Targeted synthesis by computer aided drug designing, pharmaceutical drug interaction studies, method development, and stability and validation studies.  The program seeks to prepare graduate students to function independently, competently and technically in a variety of settings including academic, research, administrative, business management, legal, regulatory and investment career tracks. The programme will inculcate among students a strong sense of civic, professional and ethical responsibility. It will help students to enhance their ability in oral and written communication, and their adaptability to team environments.
