Seminar on Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine

The Department of Microbiology at Jinnah University for Women, in collaboration with the American Society of Microbiology, Health Department of Sindh and World Health Organisation (WHO ) hosted an enlightening seminar titled ” Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine” on May 11, 2024. This seminar delved into the latest strategies for combating typhoid fever, led by esteemed experts in the field.  The opening session was graced by esteemed guests including Dr. Syed Ali Murtaza, District Health Officer of Central Karachi, and Dr. Mehraj Sandeep Kumar, Additional District Health Officer.

The first guest speaker, Dr. Hira Zaheer Khan, shared her expertise as the District EPI focal person and District COVID-19 focal person. With a background in dentistry and a master’s degree in Public Health, she provided valuable insights into typhoid disease and its prevention strategies.

Following Dr. Khan, Dr. Sobia Fatima, the DDSRU Focal person and District AEFI focal person for the TCV campaign, shed light on the significance of the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine. Her expertise, coupled with her medical background from Dow Medical College and ongoing studies in Public Health at SZABIST, enriched the seminar with detailed information about the vaccine.

The seminar also welcomed Chief Guests Dr. Naeem Rajput from EPI and Dr. Amjad, Immunization Officer from UNICEF, who discussed the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccination program in Karachi, providing a comprehensive view of its implementation and impact.

Finally, the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mahmooda Kazmi from the Department of Microbiology, expressing gratitude to all participants, speakers, and organizers for their contributions towards making the seminar a resounding success.

Attendees gained invaluable insights and practical strategies for effective disease prevention.

The objective of the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine seminar was likely to raise awareness and knowledge about the latest advancements in typhoid prevention through vaccination. It aimed to educate participants about the efficacy, benefits, and importance of the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine in controlling and reducing the burden of typhoid fever, particularly in regions where it is endemic. The seminar may have also focused on discussing vaccination strategies, public health interventions, and the role of healthcare professionals in promoting vaccine uptake to prevent typhoid infection and its complications
