The 7th Annual Research Project Display was not just an exhibition; it was a deep dive into the evolution of language in the digital age. This year, 27 research groups presented projects that tackled the most pressing questions in contemporary linguistics and global literature.
Research Frontiers: AI & Digital Linguistics
A major highlight of the event was the focus on Artificial Intelligence. Students presented groundbreaking work on:
- AI in Publishing & Writing: Analyzing how generative tools are reshaping the creative process.
- News Headlines: A comparative study of AI-generated vs. human-written headlines to detect bias and engagement.
- Linguistic Tech: The role of AI in modern linguistic data processing.
Gen-Z & Social Discourse
Our researchers explored how language defines identity and power in the modern world:
- The Generation Gap: Investigating Gen-Z language use in English Medium Instruction (EMI) classes and their unique linguistic interactions with older generations.
- Discourse Analysis: A critical look at the Tri-Service Press Conference, analyzing how language is used in high-stakes institutional communication.
- Trans-language: Exploring how bilingual speakers fluidly weave languages together in educational settings.
Literature & Translation Studies
The display honored the classics while embracing contemporary interpretations:
- The Sacred & The Translated: Comparative analyses of various translated versions of the Quran.
- Global Perspectives: In-depth studies on Russian Literature, the existential depths of Kafka, and the spiritual resonance of Rumi.
- Contemporary Voices: Exploring modern narratives that define today’s literary landscape.
Featured Keynote: Ms. Maheen Salman
Our Chief Guest, Ms. Maheen Salman (PhD Scholar, CEO Global Innovatrix Pvt Ltd, Former President KATI), commended the students for choosing “contemporary and courageous” topics. With her 24-year background in industrial management and sustainability, she highlighted how Discourse Analysis and AI literacy are now essential skills in the global corporate market.
Expert Evaluation Panel
The diversity of these topics was matched by our panel of 7 external evaluators from SMIU, SZABIST, Iqra, South City Nursing School, Al-Kauthar, UIT, and NED University. The examiners noted the high level of critical thinking required to bridge the gap between classical literature (like Rumi) and modern tech (like Gen-AI).
The “Linguistics & Literature” Experience
Beyond the data, the BS IV students brought the hall to life with themed booths. These interactive spaces allowed visitors to:
- Solve Linguistic Puzzles based on Gen-Z slang.
- Explore Visual Maps of Rumi’s poetry.
- Participate in Fun Activities that demonstrated the complexities of Trans-language.
Visit from University Leadership
The exhibition was honored by the visit of the Chancellor Wajeeh-ud-din Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naeem Farooqui, Director Finance Mr. Sani Ahmed, and Dean of Social Sciences Prof. Surayya Qamar, who praised the Department of English for staying ahead of global academic trends.
