Cultural Day at Jinnah University for Women: A Celebration of Unity and Diversity in Pakistan

Cultural Day is a highly anticipated event at Jinnah University for Women, where students and staff come together to celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Pakistan. This year’s Cultural Day, held on March 21, 2023, was a vibrant and festive occasion that aimed to foster cultural appreciation and understanding among the university students.

The whole program organized by Ms Saba and event was hosted by Rehma Jawed Ghori, a student pursuing a Bachelors  in English. It began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat e Maqbool S.A.W, setting a spiritual and reverent tone for the day. The entire university, including the Respected Chancellor Wajeehuddin Ahmed, Respected Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Naeem Farooqui, the Deans, and faculty members, gathered in the open ground, and the national anthem was sung by all present, symbolizing the unity and patriotism of the attendees.

One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Mr. Kamran Tessori, the Governor of Sindh, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Respected Chancellor Wajeehuddin Ahmed delivered a Welcome Address, expressing his admiration for the students’ hard work and dedication. The event also paid tribute to the visionary behind Pakistan’s first women’s university, Respected Al-Haj Molvi Riaz-ud-Din, acknowledging his contributions to women’s education in the country.

The students from various departments of the university captivated the audience with their soulful voices, presenting a series of national songs. Collaborative efforts from students and teachers across departments resulted in captivating cultural performances, including folk dances, traditional music, and songs. These performances showcased the artistic talents of the university community and celebrated the beauty of Pakistan’s cultural diversity.

The university was transformed into a colorful tapestry representing the various provinces and regions of Pakistan. Students from different faculties set up booths and exhibitions showcasing the traditions, clothing, cuisine, and crafts unique to each region. The Faculty of Allied Medical and Health Sciences highlighted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s culture, while the Faculty of Science incorporated the rich culture of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. The Faculty of Pharmacy showcased Sindhi culture, the Faculty of Social Sciences depicted Punjabi culture, and the Faculty of Business Administration, Commerce, and Economics presented Kashmiri culture. Respected Chancellor Wajeehuddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Naeem Farooqui, and Chief Guest Mr. Kamran Tessori visited the stalls and praised the students’ efforts, fostering a sense of appreciation for Pakistan’s cultural diversity.

The students performed a short tableau showcasing their love and affection for the Urdu language, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony, where the Pakistani flag proudly waved against the blue sky, invoking immense pride and unity among the attendees.

Governor Sindh, Kamran Tessori, shared his thoughts on the cultural day event, expressing his amazement at the students’ efforts and articulating his hopes and expectations for the youth of Pakistan. In the closing remarks, Respected Chancellor Wajeehuddin Ahmed applauded the incredible efforts of the students and faculty members, also congratulating the organizers for orchestrating such a successful event.

The Cultural Day celebration at Jinnah University for Women, much like every year, was a resounding success. It promoted cultural awareness, unity, and respect for the diverse cultural backgrounds that make up the tapestry of Pakistan.
