ISOLATION OF DIESEL DEGRADING BACTERIA FROM HYDROCARBON CONTAMINATED SITES AND SOIL

Description: Hydrocarbon-derived contaminants and bacteria are becoming one of the most common ecological issues. So, there is a need to investigate and develop innovative, low-cost, eco-friendly, and fast techniques to isolate reduce and/or eliminate these bacteria using biological agents. The study was conducted to isolate, characterize, and identify potential diesel-degrading bacteria. Samples were collected from, hydrocarbon contaminated sites, soils and spread on
selective medium containing diesel as the growth maker and substrate. The isolates were characterized based on their growth shape and colony morphology, biochemical tests, and identified using the different media Simultaneously, three diesel degraders were identified which are Pseudomonas, Achromobacter, and Bacillus and also some fungus Aspergillus.
