Description: The present study aims to assess the abundance of microplastics in the Asian green mussel (Perna viridis) along the Karachi coast, Pakistan, which serves as a crucial indicator species due to its filter-feeding behavior and commercial importance. Sampling will be conducted at various locations along the Karachi coast, covering both urbanized and less-impacted areas. Mussel specimens will be collected, dissected, and analyzed for microplastic content using established laboratory protocols. Additionally, environmental parameters such as water quality, sediment composition, and anthropogenic activities will be recorded to understand their potential influence on microplastic accumulation
Socio-Economic Benefits: The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the extent of microplastic contamination in an economically important marine species and contribute to ongoing efforts in mitigating plastic pollution in coastal ecosystems.
